Edited to add: I just asked my father what he considers himself. He said 'betwixt and between - after the GIs." I said some people call you the silent generation. He thought about it and said that's about right.

There was a lot more family & societal pressure on "girls" back then. Even a friend of mine, born in 1956, has commented on how her family (GI generation) parents and people around her thought she was headed for being an unmarried "old maid" because she wasn't married by 20. For the most part that "pressure" is a thing of the distant past in western civilization.
