Interesting how all the Beautiful People got a heads up while the ones paying $12,000 got a (bad) cheese sandwich.

And I assume that they paid in advance, and the number, time, and location was known for months. I can see how some mistakes could happen but it wasn't the Demon Murphy that's at fault here. More like greed. Someone skimmed a little too much off of the receipts leaving too little to cover expenses.

I like a lot of Sgt Peppers, as well as some of the blues sounding stuff on White Album but they definitely were cornball in their early years.
Fuck you. The early Beatles stuff is amazing
That's what 1963? Most people actually doing a living in music was doing stuff like that then. It paid the bills.
And if you look at the other music in 1963 what they did was revolutionary even then. They once again took the black music of the 50s and filtered it through the Hamburg and Liverpool bar scenes in a raw form. The rest of the 60s garage scene would have never happened without the early Beatles

I don't see any black influence in the Beatles - early stuff or otherwise, unless you're just talking about guitar riffs.

My ears and musical knowledge is not good enough to parse out the various influences on the Beatles. However, some of their early music was fluffy. Very good fluff mind you but still. I think that was heydaralon complaint. Although calling it "rhino cock" is seriously overkill.

I guess Chuck Berry and Little Richard weren't black?

Do you associate all rock and roll globally with black music? Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis were doing the same thing.

I know it started with the blues, which came from bluegrass, but it's a long way from there to the Beatles.

Are you serious right now?

I just started typing out a diatribe but do some research.

Look, I'm well aware that All Rock History says it All Came From The Blues. But did it?

Do you hear a John Lee Hooker song hidden somewhere inside "I Wanna Hold your Hand"?
Or "Hard Days Night"?

My point is that yeah, the idea of jamming on a guitar at all is a blues/bluegrass/Irish thing, and the backbeat started with the blues. But giving black people credit for the entire idea of rock is a step too far for me.

You're completely missing the bridge of the 50s in between the blues and the British in the 60s.

What made the Beatles so amazing was their ability to craft a pop song, but you're completely leaving out the early 50s black music that became rock & roll in the late 50s. That's what Elvis was playing, that's what Chuck Berry was playing. It was all black music. Look at what music turned into in the US before the British Invasion. It got all whited-up and sucked.

So black people don't get all the credit, but they get 90% of it

That's how it started in England. Literally, that footage.

As far as Blues and Rock.. Initially, the difference between blues and rock was the race of the artist. If the artist was white, the record companies labeled it "rock and roll". If the artist was black, they labeled it blues.

The first rock musicians learned their craft by sitting in the back of black churches. Elvis, Holly.. all those guys used to go to the back of black churches during gospel blues nights.

Once whites picked up on it, they added in their own culture, and what we think of as rock developed onto its own trajectory. But even today the border is really fuzzy.
