This is literally phishing. Even if Russia was behind it Hilary deserved it for staffing her campaign with weirdos that have the opsec of an intelligent five year old.

The thing is, that for Putin it was a bold move, but definately worth it. They'll look at this as a great success. What is spectacular is that even if they were caught, it doesn't matter!Fife wrote:One point you can give to duopoly thinking; it's as predictable as sunup.

It could have gone way wrong... at worst both candidates might have denounced the (then possible) hackings, and if Hillary would have gotten to be President, it would really been cold like now in Siberia when the two meet later in any event.
But now, after the elections the Americans are still bickering at each other, not at all outraged in unison or in any kind of united front. And if the Dems or even part of the GOP will continue nag about this event on Trump, that's just fine with Putin, perhaps even better than if now the thing would be forgotten. Last thing Putin wants is a strong US President that can reach over the isle. And Obama's response? Obama is a lame duck now, Putin, just like the Bibi Netanyahu, can wait for the weeks to go and then have the new start with Trump.
If the US sacks Russian diplomats out of the US and closes a Russian diplomatic compound, Putin can now do the same.
And if many Americans seriously doubt that Russia wasn't involved, case closed, brilliant move. So Putin's got a lot to celebrate the New Year, with also the Russia-Turkey managed ceasefire agreement in Syria, which leaves the Americans out.

That's true, their arrogance is overwhelming.TheReal_ND wrote:This is literally phishing. Even if Russia was behind it Hilary deserved it for staffing her campaign with weirdos that have the opsec of an intelligent five year old.
Just like Victoria Nuland and the US ambassador to Ukraine Pyatt talking on an ordinary cell phone about what the US plans are for the new Ukrainian government, who they will support. That's serious stupidity that one should have to pay.

If you're basing your argument on the correlation between the type of action taken with the nation known for that type of attack, then Nigeria hacked the election.

Nigeria might rig it's election (and usually by old-school methods), it doesn't go with "active measures" and try to influence other countries elections. Russia does. Has a long history of it as the Soviet Union did it too.Okeefenokee wrote:If you're basing your argument on the correlation between the type of action taken with the nation known for that type of attack, then Nigeria hacked the election.

No no no, that's not the metric you're using. You posted articles stating that the type of internet manipulation suspected in our election is the type of manipulation Russia has been known to use, but Nigeria is much more known as the global purveyor of internet deception. If we're simplistically trying to connect online deception with the nation most notably known with online deception, then Nigeria is at the top of the list. This was a phishing attack, after all, and it ain't Russian princes that we associate that sort of scam with. It's Nigerians.ssu wrote:Nigeria might rig it's election (and usually by old-school methods), it doesn't go with "active measures" and try to influence other countries elections. Russia does. Nigerians did it. Call up the reserves. This cannot stand.
