It would be out of character for a Muslim to do that. If it were deliberate, which I doubt, it is far more likely some Jacobine or some other radical leftist. The burning churches business is almost exclusively leftist. The Spanish Republican genocide, for example.

But they did toast that Buddha statue in Afghanistan, and they destroyed Aleppo...

Christian sites are still holy sites to them.
Buddhist and Hindu sites have no value to them.
It is sort of the same for us. We did not destroy the mosque they built on the Temple Mount when we controlled the site.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.
