Your are on the mark here.
In an attempt to deal with head trauma, the leagues rule changes were poorly handled. The league did not proactively protect it's players either, by little things like researching and mandating better head gear.

The league didn't effectively deal with the criminal behavior of their employees like Ray Rice, then went over board with guys like Adrian Peterson.

The league looked like they covered up New England cheating and let the Patriots slide on a number of other shady things like communications and deflategate.

We talked a few years ago about how the NFL was saturating the market. Too many days a week the NFL was being broadcast, it was no longer special, no longer part of a Sunday fixture.

The NFL just takes a hard line on all the wrong things. IMO, this is Goodell. The man is almost universally hated amongst NFL fans. Goodell is really bad for the brand. In the end, he won't survive a second string QB who taught got the league to outright trash Americans love of the Red White and Blue.

The hiring of criminals in the NFL stops. The "2nd Chance Universities" like Louisville stop. The "one and done" schools like Kentucky stop.

What happens next?? Schools can't fill state funded stadiums and arenas??? Professional teams would almost have to sign some sort of armistice stating that felons can not be in the league.

TBH, the "win at all costs" communities at the local level is the origin of this mess. Those communities led the way in investing resources into athletic programs 100s of times beyond what is justified to the point where the highest paid public official in every state is a college athletic coach.

Voters in McKinney, Texas, have approved the funding for a $62.8 million high-school football stadium, according to The Dallas Morning News.

http://www.businessinsider.com/texas-hi ... ium-2016-5

The drive to win is literally described as an "arms race" at the amateur level.

In the realm of college football, there is no arms race quite like the facilities arms race in the SEC.

http://www.espn.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/ ... facilities

This must win attitude has not just led to stupid financial investments, but facilitates a class of individuals who are treated with reverence and are often given "special consideration" because of their athletic and/or coaching ability.

Take the Louisville basketball scandal as an example. I can speak on this issue with a bit of authority. In college basketball an individual with minimal talent can make a lot of money. Not by playing b-ball or even coaching mind you; all that is required is you get a kid to come to your school. There is no quicker way to success. The Prostitution Scandal at UL is a perfect example of a over privileged individual (former UL PG Andree McGee) trying to use his position as an assistant coach to spring board himself into being a millionaire.

Pitino had nothing to do with that scandal and to the extent of the Adidas scandal, long time fans around here have a very hard time believing he was involved because it appeared unnecessary to say the least. Rick Pitino is literally the best college basketball coach ever. I digress...

Point is, we enabled this entitled "Athletic Class" because we felt their achievement on the field somehow added to our individual greatness. That feeling is rapidly depleting. As alumni of HSs and Universities take less pride in the performance of their former schools because they no longer can relate to the institutions and the individuals involved, this bubble will/has pop/ped.
“I've got a phone that allows me to convene Americans from every walk of life, nonprofits, businesses, the private sector, universities to try to bring more and more Americans together around what I think is a unifying theme..." - Obama

What's you're talking about has been going on in major league sports for decades....That is not why the NFL can't fill seats.....

We all know what's going on - it's so fucking obvious...
I know that you know that I know that that’s not what you mean. I disagree on the cause.

SIFCLF-R vs SIFCLF-D maybe. But I refuse to believe that millions of people are dropping a faded shell of a sport over some bullshit like kneeling. If anything, it’s a worthy distraction from the dumpster fire that Goodell has created.
It's not just the kneeling.....its the whole fucking brand....it sucks....no class, no sportsmenship....funny....but it turns out people actually care about those terms....

You could add in some ridiculous ghetto behavior to the mix, sure. It started with “Primetime”, and ratcheted up to the idiotic shit that TO or Cruz pull in the end zone. But, they always ate the fine and moved on. The fines were too weak to compensate for the endorsement hype that they got from it. Should have been suspensions involved.

However, now we’ve got fucking unlimited end zone celebrations, and TAUNTING is used to call back big plays. It’s a half assed backwards enforcement that makes no sense.

Same as he’s done to catches. Now, nobody knows what the fuck a catch is, until some crew in NYC (probably manned by Goodell himself) decides it, and fixes the game for maximum hype.

The integrity of the game is shot. Period. You can signal your virtue all up and down the thread, but the collapse of football has very little to do with “patriotism”, or any of the nonsense around it.

Wasn't that my point? The total affront to Patriotism is merely the last straw of many.....The brand sucks.

In order to adjust the new reality of cord cutters, the NHL has made a decision to stop with mass market appeal and just cater to the nish hockey fan market....Perhaps the NFL will do the same....in order to do so, it's going to have to chose with culture it was to pursue...

This begs the questions, will the internet make up more tribal/balkanized since we will have fewer and fewer common experiences? like watching Monday night football? The Munsters? I Love Lucy, etc...? In other words, the internet is making it easier to not have to associate with cultures one does not ascribe to....

A cheeseburger is less harmful to your kid than the NFL.....

It's ridiculous. I wonder if the owners are starting to get nervous?
I would think they would have to be. The longer this goes on, fans may just change their habits and entertainment. I know there is a fairly large piece of former fans that just won't come back.

$4 nose bleed seats for Browns tickets ins't something that other major owners will worry about, IMO.

Just like 1 kneeling second string QB was nothing to worry about.....point taken, well see if the contagion spreads....

Well I doubt that these are "officially" being sold by the actual team but by someone else.

If these were cowboys, eagles, steelers, jets, etc... maybe but honestly you guys are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hole. Its the end of the season for the Browns and their record speaks and the fact that these are not "prime" seats sends the message that maybe that this isn't such a big deal.
