No we aren't. The 60's were fucking ridiculous. Ours is the logical conclusion an over burdened, over corrupt, over bureacratized, over politically correct, information overload status quo that needed a course correction a long time ago.Penner wrote:Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:Almost certainly a true statement.Okeefenokee wrote:

More interesting to me though: has anyone noticed how we have begun to conflate a person with the information they find reliable?
Very post-modern.
I find it amazing that some are still trying to justify everything Trump does as either "really good" or "oh, its fake news/the deep state". When you think about the current news, we are probably living through one of the most bizarre moments in American history.

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
Today I saw this Asian guy who was like 5 foot 2 and he had completely copied Trump's style. His hair was the same and he was wearing a suit with a long skinny tie. He was just walking down the hallway with his wife. It wasn't a street performer or anything like that.
I wanted to ask him what his game was, but I was afraid of offending him somehow. Like, what if he just dressed this way on his own and thought it was normal?
I'd have loved to have gotten a picture.

Let's look up TB in the US.

Doesn't look a disaster.
Being white seems to help.
It seems to be a problem in countries where they have medicine but are very lax in their application.

The real risk to keep your eye on is Multidrug-Resistant TB (MDR TB). We've seen some cases here in Sweden. Mostly in people from the Baltic states and Russia.Rates of TB for Different Racial and Ethnic Groups
† For this report, persons identified as white, black, Asian, American Indian/Alaska Native, native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, or of multiple races are all non-Hispanic. Persons identified as Hispanic may be of any race.
American Indians or Alaska Natives: 6.1 TB cases per 100,000 persons
Asians: 18.2 TB cases per 100,000 persons
Blacks or African Americans: 5.0 TB cases per 100,000 persons
Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders: 18.2 TB cases per 100,000 persons
Hispanics or Latinos: 4.8 TB cases per 100,000 persons
Whites: 0.6 TB cases per 100,000 persons

In 2015, an estimated 480 000 people worldwide developed MDR-TB, and an additional 100 000 people with rifampicin-resistant TB were also newly eligible for MDR-TB treatment. India, China, and the Russian Federation accounted for 45% of the 580 000 cases. It is estimated that about 9.5% of these cases were XDR-TB.

So for example when in Russia, avoid at all costs coughing bums and homeless people.

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
Anybody remember the Whitefish Energy deal, where a tiny 2-person Company with owners close to the Trump administration got a 300 million dollar contract to repair Puerto Rico's damaged power system?
Now the Puerto Rican officials have cancelled the contract, but very telling is the actual contract itself:
A deal just made for kickbacks and theft. But these issues seldom come to light. Just like that because of the Russia links Trump's candidate gave up his bid for chief Scientist for the USDA, also admitted that he had no scientific background whatsoever. Tells a lot about the current administration. At least the Whitefish deal made some Republicans notice something:
Now the Puerto Rican officials have cancelled the contract, but very telling is the actual contract itself:
(See Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority Cancels Whitefish Energy Deal)Language in the contract appeared to give Whitefish a sweetheart deal as the people of Puerto Rico struggle to recover from the devastation of the hurricane.
The contract stated that, “In no event shall [government bodies] have the right to audit or review the cost and profit elements.” That gave Whitefish wide discretion and privacy over how it used $300 million in U.S. taxpayer money.
It also waived “any claim against Contractor related to delayed completion of the work,” which means the government couldn’t do much if Whitefish dragged out its job restoring electricity to the 3.4 million Americans living on the island.

The corruption hasn't gone anywhere. Likely it has gotten only worse under the Trump administration.Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah) said documents provided to his House Natural Resources Committee last week raised fresh concerns about the island’s $300 million contract with Whitefish Energy. Officials rescinded that deal last month amid questions from lawmakers and government watchdogs.
“There are some other circumstances within those documents that add more questions, which means at some point I would like those to be answered, and someone needs to look at that,” Bishop said during a hearing on Hurricane Maria recovery efforts Tuesday. He didn’t expand on what questions the documents raised.

Still haven’t seen much coverage of Puerto Rico since the storm. Is it a hellscape, or recovering on its own?

This has to be fake news. I've been assured, repeatedly, that Trump is draining the swamp. Haven't you heard? Both are corrupt, the Democrats till lately have kept it under wraps while the media has been a dog to a bone, digging for the Republicans corruption for well over a decade plus.Kath wrote:This has to be fake news.
