Of course, my fellow citizens overruled me, and hiked taxes for a TUBERCULOSIS CLINIC, Drug Task Force, and "Continuing Education" today, so it's a pyrrhic victory, at best.Nukedog wrote:You did a good bro grumpsGrumpyCatFace wrote:It seems I stopped a new tax today, in our town. TB is only a thing in jail. It does sound like a scam tbh. It's not even a thing in jail but that's where you are going to be forced to be tested along with public school and only Mexicans are even testing positive for it.
I have mixed feeling about the opiod crises.
I fucking hate what these guys have done to my people but this Right Wing Task Force is just another piggy bank.

Property rights, a touchy thing for some.nmoore63 wrote:https://www.gq.com/story/rand-paul-bad-neighbor
On the east side of my property is a falling down stone wall that my old neighbor and I always basically took as the property line (for purposes of mowing the small 5' stretch of lawn by the street - the phone/power pole also roughly lines up there, so just made sense as "mutual agreement", he was far more of a "lush green pristine lawn Nazi" than me), that part of both our yards was just wooded, some bushes, little saplings, etc. On one occasion several years back I asked him because I had a birch tree that I had to drop (leaning towards my house and you could poke a stick 3/4 of the way under the base), but to drop it safely I had to tie a come-along to one of his trees to pull it that way, and the top 10' or so would go over the "wall" (more a long pills of rocks) into "his woods" - at least for a short time before I cut it up. He had no problems.
Sadly, the old neighbors were going senile and a few years back their kids put them in assisted living, so I got a new couple next door about 1-1/2yrs ago. Had noticed them taking a few trees down in their back yard (south) to open it up, and then they took down a tree or two by their driveway (my east just described, near their driveway) - not a problem. Then one day this spring I came out to find they'd cut more, and cleared a bunch of the brush and little saplings... Not only on "their" side of that stone-pile wall, but crossed over it a good 15 feet, cut down a slew of little 1/2"-1-1/2" saplings and brush on my side, as well as did a horrible hack job pruning like the bottom 10' of branches off a pine tree (again, 15' on my side of that "wall"). I went over to talk to them that evening, the husband wasn't home yet, and the wife (& they have 2 daughters) really was clueless but said "her father" had come over and done some clearing. I said I didn't really care what they did on their side of that wall (in my poor memory I think I'd found a rotting wood marker stake out there 26yrs ago when I moved in and it was in the vicinity of the wall, give or take a foot or two in either direction, but it was a long time ago - I probably should've driven a pipe in or something there but didn't really think about it at the time and got along fine with the old neighbors), and I'm guessing they cleared the lower branches of the pine because it gives them a clear view from the front porch now of the end of the street - bus stop for the kids, but let my "displeasure" be known they crossed that wall onto my side/property and cut stuff without even bothering to ask me.
Like look, what's done is done, the brush/saplings was minor - lost me perhaps a bit of "privacy" but not much, hacking the branches off my pine tree (in an ugly way too, cut 3/4 of the way with a hand saw and then busted off in some cases) upset me the most - if they'd asked and said they wanted a clear view of the bus stop I would've gone out myself with the chainsaw and trimmed it a bit for them, in the interest of "good neighborship"? Not particularly worth getting lawyers involved for maybe 10 saplings, 2 overgrown bushes, and a dozen pine tree branches, but I felt it worth expressing displeasure at to keep it from reoccurring in perhaps larger ways (like taking down larger trees on my side).
Over the summer surveyors showed up, I guess they'd hired them to stake out the real property line - two days out there (a couple weeks between days - I talked to them while they were out there) they marked the real line... I haven't seen or talked to the neighbors since - since the actual line is a good 10-12' past that rock-pile lawn on their side, they actually cut down a couple 6" dia trees that were mine, but "lost" 10-12' (by say 100+ft) of wooded area that I would've not cared before if they'd even just clear cut, by coming over that falling down wall that the old neighbor and I just kinda mutually agreed to use. Y'know, I don't want problems, lots of my hickory trees went crazy dropping nuts this year, so I raked them and tossed them out there - I'll have new growth/saplings in a few years, might even buy a tree or two to plant there, nbd, not worth legal hassles and making enemies of the neighbour over... Be nice if I got a real apology, but hey - they probably spent a couple $grand getting that surveying done that turned out in my favor, so I'm not gonna argue.
Now I've driven in steel pipes that I painted the ends of fluorescent orange so when those cheap pine markers degrade eventually there'll still be something there.
