By the by this is what I've been cooking with for months in my van. I don't use metal utensils but I guess the very minor scoring is from dirt or something. Bear in mind I've literally cooked fish straight from the beach in it. It hasn't given me a single issue. I just fry it up and forget about it. If I find too much accumulation I pour some vinegar on it and wipe it off.
Works until it doesn’t.

I don't have to think much about my pans at all unless people try to convince me to use cast iron cookware. I focus on cooking and then throw my pans in the dishwasher. I know. It sounds crazy, but it's totally true. I don't have to worry about seasoning it, or how the fuck I am supposed to clean it, or anything. I don't even tweak my back pulling the 25 pound pot out of the bottom cabinet. Sounds too good to be true? It's not.

You can buy cheap bullshit from Walmart, but don't pretend that's what we are talking about just because ALL cast iron cookware is Walmart-cheap.

Cast iron can last forever too. The problem is that it sucks. Both good stainless steel and cast iron cookware last your entire life. Durability is not a winning factor either way but, rather, ease of use. A ten pound frying pan I can't wash in the dishwasher sucks long time. It could provide you with extra work and hassle your whole life.
I don’t think you could even get cast iron from Walmart. Ours came from the flea market and family members.

Re: Stainless Steel: unless you paid $100/pan, it ain’t stainless steel.
You can get cast iron anywhere. Preseasoned cast iron made in America? Not anywhere.

FAQ

Are Lodge products made in the USA?

All of our foundry Seasoned Cast Iron and our Seasoned Carbon Steel products are manufactured in the USA and always will be. All Enameled Cast Iron products are made in China to our strict quality standards (why?). Our accessories come from multiple sources, some of which are American, and some overseas.

Literally $18.84 at Walmart:

Enameled cast iron from them is made in China, but it's not like you have a porous surface made from fat and oil to worry about. Just clean it. But the shittiest kind of cast iron you love is made right here in America.

If want to get your dome cracked with real American cast iron, come on down to South Pittsburg.

Their website says they use soybean oil to season it. What better way to perfect a twenty pound pan that sucks than to cover it in estrogen that leeches into your food.

This is how I roll:

https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-FCT22- ... B004YV6096

It's not expensive, but not total garbage either. France doesn't fuck around with cookware. French cookware and German knives, man.

All my cookware is probably from an earlier model, though. Ten years into this and they still work just fine.

Cuisinart have good stuff. It’s a matter of taste and depends on what you cook. The advantage with cast iron is it’s abilit to store heat. It doesn’t go cold if you pop in some cold ingredient cos you end up with boiled food when you want fried.
9 times out of 10 a stainless pan of descent quality will do just as fine.

Stainless Steel vs. Cast Iron, Trump should weigh in with a tweet, then all this talk would be fully on topic.
