Bring it. Student Veterans tailgate on Veteran's Day. Austin, 11 November. I'll be there to liberate you of your iron.Nukedog wrote:Implying stainless is cheap.Okeefenokee wrote:If American cast iron was shitty, I wouldn't own hundred year old cast iron cookware.
If cheap stainless steel cookware was ageless, I wouldn't have owned dozens of pieces that ended up in the landfill.
I'll send you my rusted out cast iron for free just pay shipping. I couldn't be bothered to season it on my fucking Coleman stove and it's pretty fucking humid in Texas so it only took a fucking weekend to rust to shit. Have fun with it.

Yeah dude have fun with it. I lost twenty bucks on it but you have a stove so go ahead with your bad self. I'll keep this stainless skillet that costs thirty and I can't possibly fuck up if I tried. Like I said, a little vinegar and a wet rag. Literally the only maintenance you need other than finding implausible ways to fuck up a literally untarnishable steel.

I don’t think you could even get cast iron from Walmart. Ours came from the flea market and family members.Speaker to Animals wrote:Okeefenokee wrote:If American cast iron was shitty, I wouldn't own hundred year old cast iron cookware.

You can buy cheap bullshit from Walmart, but don't pretend that's what we are talking about just because ALL cast iron cookware is Walmart-cheap.
Cast iron can last forever too. The problem is that it sucks. Both good stainless steel and cast iron cookware last your entire life. Durability is not a winning factor either way but, rather, ease of use. A ten pound frying pan I can't wash in the dishwasher sucks long time. It could provide you with extra work and hassle your whole life.

Stainless has different grades. The thirty dollar pan will do the same as the hundred dollar one for cooking. It's only when you expand into non magnetized stainless (virtually impossible to acquire even on the screw level) and marine grade stainless that you will start to pay exorbitant prices.
Also, cast iron is 20 bucks at Walmart. Made in the USA

You can get cast iron anywhere. Preseasoned cast iron made in America? Not anywhere.GrumpyCatFace wrote:I don’t think you could even get cast iron from Walmart. Cast iron is literally one step above pig iron. It's a very cheap form of iron that requires much less processing than steel and is usually composed of recycled iron. There is nothing special about it other than its latent loose structure of carbon to iron geometry that allows it to heat efficiently and evenly. It is an underrated engine block that can handle more boost or a cast iron pan that can be well maintained and last forever but it is by no means or manner a performance metal.
