The point is that if you aren't competing so hard against someone who has an unfair advantage, prices will go down. It's the way the market works. Seriously, it doesn't take a genius to figure that one out.StCapps wrote:The consumer paying more is not good for America, it's good for the workers who get the extra jobs and the companies who employ them, everyone else loses. You smelter the materials here, you forge them here, you produce them here, you don't pay an international transportation fee, or anything else. You Also put money into American's pockets instead of being on welfare or working poor. You get more people making a few hundred a week, instead of a monthly state backed paycheck of a few hundred a month, you'll see people spending, and America would be better off putting money back into its own coffers.
Why is this so hard for you to understand?

No prices will go up, because people can't buy the cheaper goods because you slapped an embargo on them. International transportation is cheaper than paying American workers, if it wasn't then the big corporations would already make the goods in America because it would save them money. The Conservative wrote:You smelter the materials here, you forge them here, you produce them here, you don't pay an international transportation fee, or anything else.
That won't compensate for consumers being forced to pay more for goods that can be produced far more cheaply and efficiently in China. The Conservative wrote:You Also put money into American's pockets instead of being on welfare or working poor. How is comparative advantage so hard for you to understand? It makes sense for China to produce some goods and for Americans to import them rather than produce them themselves, and vice versa. Don't be an economic moron, you aren't helping the average American by slapping an embargo on Chinese goods, quite the opposite. The Conservative wrote:Why is this so hard for you to understand?

Let's say you buy a pair of sunglasses that if made in the US would cost you $100, but they are well made and have a five-year warranty on them. Right next to them looks to be the same thing, but made in China, they cost $15. They have no warranty on them, and if you break them you are SOL, they aren't made as well, and you can already tell that if you use them like you do everything else in life they may last a few months, but you'll be back to buy another pair because the lenses scratched, or something stupid like you sitting on them broke one of the side bars.
Which one would you rather buy, the cheap pair that you replace every six months or the one pair that you replace every five years?
You will probably say the cheap ones out of spite, but let's be honest, anyone that buys a product from China gets what they deserve. I'll shuck out the extra 20 to 30% or more to buy American, as long as I know the product.
Just remember, buying the Chinese piece of crap knock off is cheap upfront, but if you replace them once every six months minimum you'll pay $150 for the lifetime of the USA made version.
Oh, and I have done just that myself, so don't say that an example like that doesn't exist. I buy American whenever I can.

No, honestly, I'll take the cheap one. Your example was not "20 to 30% more", it was 7x more. And that's usually the case. The Conservative wrote:Let me destroy your argument with one statement and one question.StCapps wrote:No prices will go up, because people can't buy the cheaper goods because you slapped an embargo on them. I can probably avoid going through 7 pairs of shades in the 5-year time period of that warranty, and who wants to wait 3 weeks and deal with probably getting rejected on a warranty claim, with no shades?
The current situation is not the fault of American workers - nobody argues that. It's an economic distortion from our insane monetary policies. We simply can't compete with the dollar value wildly different from other currencies.

Then you are a god damn sucker that China loves. I had an issue with my glasses, they sent out a replacement with a box, I put the old ones in there and I never was out of a pair of glasses.GrumpyCatFace wrote:No, honestly, I'll take the cheap one. Chinese companies are the professional fuck you groups out there, you don't just buy cheap shit, you buy cheap shit and love it. Oh, and any working stiff out there would go through a pair of glasses in 6 months if they were not well made.

IDK but I fly a Syma X5C drone for fun a couple of times per week. I bought spare engines, props, batteries with chargers, and other spare parts for it and a case. All of it from China and all for under $100.00. I've been flying it hard for over well over a year and only had to change the props once. I also bought my kids a chinese built 110cc quad for about $500.00. They've had it for two years now and no problems. The Conservative wrote:Let me destroy your argument with one statement and one question.StCapps wrote:No prices will go up, because people can't buy the cheaper goods because you slapped an embargo on them. I had a buddy in highschool that used to buy $100+ Oakleys. He'd show them off and strut around for a week, then they'd break, and I'd try not to laugh in his face.Martin Hash wrote:I buy $1 sunglasses.
