Re: Current US Military
Russ Roberts' "EconTalk" podcast today talks about entitlements vs. military spending. I was not aware that entitlements are now 2/3rds of the U.S. budget while military spending is 15%.
It seems pretty bleak. You're going have to elect me Czar for a few years so I can straighten this shit out.

You really can't undo it without serious blowback and problems. These are the costs of more than a decade of constant war. This is what happens when people don't pay any real costs of constant war and keep voting in politicians who continue this debacle indefinitely. The cost of a war is actually a lot larger on the back end, especially now with the current state of battlefield medicine.
My guess is that the VA will soon be the largest expenditure in the federal budget, bigger than the DoD.

Read the 10 steps in the back of my book, "The Center," for how to get out of this.
Here's a hint: there's less than 200 super-wealthy families, and only 0.01% of the population own 50% of the wealth. We can make 99.9% of Americans okay without much problem. Just have to fight the private armies of the 0.01%

We need to rejuvenate the Old School Militia program, an M-4 over every mantel, Drill on the Town Square on Saturday. Your 0.01% would take notice.Martin Hash wrote:Read the 10 steps in the back of my book, "The Center," for how to get out of this.

Politics is subject to supply and demand. When you have a population that doesn't pay any costs for war, they don't really give a shit. I doubt 90% of the people who voted for Hillary Clinton ever served in a war or would ever consider enlisting, for example. They are the fucking problem. Either take away the vote or establish a decent chance that any given one of them could get called up to fight any military engagement authorized by Congress or the President through the War Powers Act. I guarantee if everybody had a chance of getting drafted every single time the government decided to attack another nation of people, you'd see more politicians promising to end this fucking farce outright.

Anyone taking bets on who would win a war between an army of soldiers and an army of lawyers? I’d like to place mine.

Re: Current US Military
Meanwhile you have Smitty hunting polar bears and making dismissive comments about the strength of the US military in the 1960s and 70s which is eroding our international prestige. Id like to see that stopped, with a JSOC operation in Toronto if necessary.
