I mean, we are talking about Americans here, so could have been want to buzz the tower like Maverick in Top Gun, but ended up clippin' the tower on the way by and did a faceplant instead.

We're good for that too.

They don't turn or change speed suddenly. For a modern computer they should be about as predictable when it comes to future position as a lighthouse.

Who takes responsibility when a system fails like this? Can the manufacturer be sued or do they get some immunity?

My bet is incompetence and possibly unjustifiable risk-taking.

The USN has a reputation for being somewhat bozo apparently for a reason..

Honestly, I am surprised the Pentagon didn't try to blame hackers like the democrats and IC do.

You do have officers who like to show off, "hey, I'm going to bust a move on these merchants and show em' how it's done" BAM!. "Dang".

Yep. It's fucking ridiculous. It's them, though. Don't try to pin this on enlisted folks. We just get drunk and fall off the roof of the barracks and shit like that. We don't destroy B-52 and destroyers.

Well I'm not going to say that I never did anything risky in the military, just to spice things up because I was bored out of my skull and risk was the only recreation available, but you know the rule on that; don't fuck up. And if you do fuck up; don't get caught.

And don't risk other people's lives doing it. And definitely don't risk expensive assets like a B-52 or a missile destroyer.

The risky shit we did involved stupid drunken stunts. We didn't take risk with a fucking F-15.

Technically, if you step outside the bounds of strict adherence to the TTP's, you're risking the team in the process, but indeed, a recce patrol is just three guys, and you consult that team about breaking the rules before you break them collectively, "Chinese Parliament" is what the Brits call it.

"We could take the long way, boys, slow and safe, or we could cut through here, which is dangerous as all heck and we'll swing for it if we get caught, but if we don't, we'll be twelve hours ahead of the game sitting on the objective before anyone else has even crossed the FEBA, so what say you?"
