Mint's repository has to be some kind of joke.

Cinnamon looks nice, though.

After installation, pretty much everything had to be configured manually. This computer is not even a year old, so wtf?

Definitely was digging Cinnamon, but probably will be fine going back to KDE.

Mint has a really bizarre update manager.

sudo apt-get - also check out the Ubuntu software center.

Further, Cinnamon is basically gnome 2.

Kubuntu installed better. Still can't get my headphones to work.

I'm going to try and ditch libuntu for xubuntu. I don't want to do a clean install. There should be a way to do it from the terminal somehow.

Still tweaking some things, but KDE's plasma desktop looks pretty tight.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

In the login screen you should be able to switch between desktops.

Some of the KDE apps are crap, though. You still will want decent email client and maybe calendar.

have you tried

Code: Select all

pavucontrol
and made sure it's pulseaudio isn't muted? Worked for me. Both headphones and speakers work now

I went and installed youtube-dl to download YouTube vids. Can't figure out how to convert webm's to MP3 yet but I did find out you can download podcasts with it if you can't find the download link and it converts them straight to MP3 but you have to rename them to something that makes sense. When you use youtube-dl "link" just make sure you are in your desired folder in the terminal prompt
