Don't conflate the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens with the rest of the Canadian franchises, outside of the Leafs and Habs, the Canadian hockey franchises are not strong at all, if the Canadian dollar stays down against the US dollar, Ottawa and Winnipeg will be going South, bet dat, I wouldn't be too confident about Edmonton and Calgary neither, ultimately, there are really only two powerhouse hockey franchises in Canada, and we are propping the rest of them up.

Like, newsflash, Rogers did not pay $5.2 billion for the TV rights to Edmonton Oiler hockey games, that's 80% for the Leafs, 15% for the Habs, 5% for the rest.

Canadian franchises I don't care about. I'm an Avs fan. Location of NHL Franchises has no real effect on global hockey supremacy. Some major American hockey markets might be stronger than some of the weaker Canadian Franchises but that isn't going to translate into producing quality NHL level talent en masse. If it did the Yanks would have already surpassed us and most NHL teams would have more Americans playing for them than Canadians, yet they aren't even close to that happening and hockey isn't that much more popular in America than before Gary Bettman's American based expansions.Smitty-48 wrote:Don't conflate the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens with the rest of the Canadian franchises, outside of the Leafs and Habs, the Canadian hockey franchises are not strong at all, if the Canadian dollar stays down against the US dollar, Ottawa and Winnipeg will be going South, bet dat, I wouldn't be too confident about Edmonton and Calgary neither, ultimately, there are really only two powerhouse hockey franchises in Canada, and we are propping the rest of them up.
America isn't even close, and show no real signs of closing the gap with any real sense of urgency. I'm not worried about them overtaking us anytime soon and neither should you. Yawnville.

I'm not worried so much as realistic, I actually thrive on the danger, I've lived through the rise of American hockey power, I've watched them come from nowhere to parity, they can match us right now, any day of the week, the reason the victories over the Americans have become so sweet, is that there are no Miracles on Ice anymore, we are barely holding our lead, by the narrowest of margins, every victory over the Americans, the Spartans at the pass, every defeat, a Dunkirk by the sea, the stakes are so high now, because this war is for realz and we could lose any battle at any time, it's all high stakes now, and that actually makes it more exciting than its ever been, far more exciting than the war against the Soviets.
The war against the Soviets was expeditionary, in this war now, the Barbarians are at the gates.

Parity? Talk to me when there are as many American born/developed players as Canadian born/developed players playing on Stanley Cup winning NHL teams or even when the core members of a cup winning team are a majority American. Until then, talk of parity is laughable especially when we keep winning most of the important international competitions as well. The Soviets didn't even have parity and they were far closer to it than US ever has been. America is nowhere close to us, they've come a long way sure but if they want parity, or god forbid to pass us as the number one hockey nation, then they've got a hell of a long way to go.Smitty-48 wrote:I'm not worried so much as realistic, I actually thrive on the danger, I've lived through the rise of American hockey power, I've watched them come from nowhere to parity, they can match us right now, any day of the week, the reason the vicrtories over the Americans have become so sweet, is that there are no Miracles on Ice anymore, we are barely holding our lead, by the narrowest of margins, every victory over the Americans, the Spartans at the pass, every defeat, a Dunkirk by the sea, the stakes are so high now, because this war is for realz and we could lose any battle at any time, it's all high stakes now.

Indeed, and we may just have to put the stick in your spokes, if you get too close, Paisano. :go team:Fife wrote:Papa! Papa! The Canucks, They are coming!

LOL, I'd expect no less, sir. My gag was that our white-bread snaggle-toothed hillbillies are learning a thing or two about how the game is really played from the true purveyors up yonder. :goteam:
I really think I would have liked it better than football in HS if we had it here then.

Not even the case anymore, those "snaggle toothed hillbillies" have built a Hockey Industrial Complex to beat the Evil Empire at its own game, without even breaking a sweat, meanwhile, the Evil Empire crosses its fingers and hopes that the Gordies Howe's will just keep showing up from the collective farms by default, when the collective farms are going away and going away fast, replaced more and more by swarthy basketball playing Hipster Millenial Faggot factories.Fife wrote:Smitty-48 wrote:Indeed, and we may just have to put the stick in your spokes, if you get too close, Paisano. :go team:Fife wrote:Papa!
