It wasn't the USSR that pushed our boys behind the 38th parallel back in 1953. That was 100% Chinese military. Plus, I've already supplied the trade ratios. Moscow doesn't even seem to rate against Beijing when it comes to being allies of the DPRK.Smitty-48 wrote:Another thing to note; the DPRK has never actually been a PRC proxy, the DPRK was always a Soviet proxy, the NK's fear and loathe the Chinese, and always have, so they have always tried to play Beijing off of Moscow, it was always Moscow who was their military benfactor, not Beijing, and this is still the case, the KPAF is not a PLA proxy, it's a Soviet proxy, Soviet doctrine, Soviet kit, and most of their military support is still coming from the Russians not the Chinese, so when looking around for somebody who might come in on the NK's side, even if only peripherally, it's not Beijing you should look towards, it's the Kremlin.

DPRK is a client of PRC. The Chinese kicked our asses in the Korean War, pushing all the way back across the DMZ.

Re: North Korea News
But that only occured after the Americans had destroyed the NK army, China didn't come in to save the NK's, China deliberately waited until they were wiped out, only then did China invade, and who did they invade and occupy? North Korea, which was always the great fear of the North Koreans, that's why the North Korean's fear and loathe them, the Chinese have always been their principle threat and sworn enemies. You crushed the North Koreans, they were anihilated in the wake of Inchon, but that wasn't why the Chinese came in, they were perfectly happy to see you get the North Koreans out of the way for them.DBTrek wrote:It wasn't the USSR that pushed our boys behind the 38th parallel back in 1953. As for 100% Chinese military, in 1950? Please, they were totally dependant on Moscow back then, the Chinese were as much a Soviet proxy as the North Koreans were, back in 1950. The Chinese and Soviets didn't have a falling out, until 1968, because that's how long it took for the Chinese to build up a force which could stand on its own two feet, without being propped up by the Kremlin.

You know what's funny? Even though Americans have long said that the Domino Theory was a false narrative, supposedly the Domino Theory was discredited years ago in the wake of Vietnam, you're still propagating it right now, you still can't see, or you simply refuse to see, that it's not one big block of Commies all allied and unified against you, but rather a bunch of sworn enemies who all fear and loathe each other, while also fearing and loathing America at the same time; "DPRK is China's proxy!"; Domino Theory all over again.
Everything old is new again in America, Red Scare to the Domino Theory, who knew?

100%? It was the Russian Air Force shooting down American Sabre's (quite successfully). And basically Russian generals planned the whole attack in 1950. And when the US counterattacked, it was Stalin that asked Mao for some Chinese divisions to intervene. And the material was all Russian. And just who did put Kim Il Sung into power, eh? That time China was quite dependent on Stalin and Russia.DBTrek wrote: It wasn't the USSR that pushed our boys behind the 38th parallel back in 1953. That was 100% Chinese military.

The easy thing about being a student of American history, is that Americans never change, it all just goes on a cycle, you only have to familiarize yourself with the American cycle once, then you just check where on the cycle you are at any given moment, whether it's "Remember the Maine!" or "Domino Theory!", what have you, Americans are nothing, if not consistent, it all just keeps coming back around again, just wait one generation, two at the most, and you'll be right back to where you started.
It's kind of like one of those Hollywood slasher horror flick franchises, Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street, what are we on now, Red Scare Domino Theory IV? Every movie is the same of course, but so long as they make pork in the districts, it's all good.
Not complaining mind you; as ever, Lockheed Martin shareholders approve. Not only that, Lockheed Martin shareholders say thank goodness for Kim Jong Un & Co, because quite frankly, Iran has been a big bust, the big bucks don't really come into play, unless it is the Pentagon bellying up to the counter, all due respect to Saudi Arabia, who are really just a stopgap.

Defense News - If the US is going to war in North Korea, nobody told the US military (8/11/17)
The current flare-up is the latest example of the war rhetoric far outpacing the facts on the ground, a U.S. official said on background Friday morning.
“This may come as a shock, but the rhetoric doesn't match reality,” a U.S. official said. ”[I’m] worried about a ‘Guns of August’ scenario, where we stumble into a conflict,” referring to the popular history book of World War I that argued the war happened because of a series of diplomatic miscues.
Out at U.S. Pacific Command, or PACOM, the command that would lead any attack on North Korea, its situation normal, according to a source familiar who spoke on background.
“Nobody at PACOM is setting their hair on fire; its calm and professional,” the source said. ”It‘s really D.C. rhetoric that’s driving this whole thing.”
