I don't think the Chinese are going to throw themselves in front of North Korea in the face of an American counterforce, particularly because, if America went there, it wouldn't be a massive retaliation countervalue nuke them all into the stone age type deal, it would be precise and focused, on the North Korean weapons and related infrastructure, so it wouldn't be in anyway aimed at China, so nothing China would actually need to go to war over, and whatever rhetoric they may employ for saber rattling purposes, they are not really in a position to go to war with America, and they well know it.

I suspect they could probably push both us and the ROK army out of Asia. Would they? Or you think they'd deem that too risky?

The other thing to consider, is that this is not 1950, the Korean Peninsula is not really central to China's warplans, even if they went to war with somebody, be that Japan, or be that India, or even be that America, the Korean peninsula is no longer a center of gravity, the Chinese have shifted to a maritime strategy, their ground forces are no longer their arm of decision, used to be, all they had was an army, so the only place they could do anything was on land, but now that they have a huge navy, land war has become a secondary if not tertiary consideration, the only country I can see them getting into a land war with, is actually India.

But even so, are the Chinese really going to put torpedoes under American keels in the China Seas, for Pyongyang? Yeah, ah, no, I don't think so.

I deem that to not only be too risky, but because the Chinese have switched over to a Western style technologically dependant mechanized army, I would deem them to be sitting ducks for American air dominance, to wit, you would mop the floor with them, highway of death, that's the ironic thing, when it was just a million Chinamen spilling over the border with bolt action rifles, that was actually harder to deal with, because it was so dispersed, there was no center of gravity to come to grips with, there wasn't enough there for bombing to have devastating effects, but now that the Chinese have become a technological military, they have put themselves right in the Pentagon's wheelhouse, just how the Pentagon likes it.

Another thing to note; the DPRK has never actually been a PRC proxy, the DPRK was always a Soviet proxy, the NK's fear and loathe the Chinese, and always have, so they have always tried to play Beijing off of Moscow, it was always Moscow who was their military benefactor, not Beijing, and this is still the case, the KPAF is not a PLA proxy, it's a Soviet proxy, Soviet doctrine, Soviet kit, and most of their military support is still coming from the Russians not the Chinese, so when looking around for somebody who might come in on the NK's side, even if only peripherally, it's not the Forbidden City you should look towards, it's the Kremlin.
