Beautiful Nashvegas:

Teacher Town Hall: MNPS discipline policies spark 'chaos'
"Students are in school and they are disruptive and they are running through the halls and they are using profanity and hurting other students," she said.

While the teachers acknowledged that Joseph's push to keep children in school -- especially children of color -- is a good idea, that hasn't stopped students from taking advantage of those good intentions.

"You reduce discipline because we cannot suspend students," Wade said.

"But by the same token, you've kind of opened up a Pandora's box because students aren't always feeling like they get consequences so they continue."

Retired middle school teacher Karen Gordon said, "Students walk in and out of classes. They walk out and when they come back, they are laughing and it's more disruptive because they know they can do it. "
What's going on in your child's prison/school?

That's not the normal discipline situation, but it might be one we all trend towards as time goes on. We've had a few extra (read: some at all) cops in the building last few days, which is out of the normal. Discipline on the whole is pretty strong up here, at least it is for also not feeling overmuch. Not sure expelling is an option admin will use without drastic need, however-- I would have assumed the kids who robbed town hall would have been.

As a side note, if you robbed a town hall by taking the entire safe from the building, you really ought to cover your tracks in the snow that falls as you do it. It's not hard to figure out where the safe went when there's a two-foot wide trail from where you dragged it.

If I have freedom in my love
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone that soar above
Enjoy such Liberty" - Richard Lovelace

Utah has its limits.

Utah teacher forced student to wash off Ash Wednesday cross on forehead, family says

“She took me aside, and she said, ‘You have to take it off,’” William said. “She gave me a disinfection wipe — whatever they are called — and she made me wipe it off.”

My wife took my son to school late so they could got to Mass and was worried the school was going to say something about it. The office lady had her ashes on, and my son's teacher said she wished she had the time to go. Even this heathen state surprises me sometimes
No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session

This 1999 piece from Andrew Young and Walter Block was re-run this past week. If you are interested in the problems that public education has in America, it's a high-impact short read.

Enterprising Education: Doing Away with the Public School System

Education is a Service
Necessary to "Freedom"?
Equal Opportunity?
Is Education a Public Good?

All the arguments in favor of a public provision of primary education prove to be unfounded and/or incorrect. The failure of the state to provide a high quality service to all (its explicit goal) has rendered public primary education illegitimate; and the immeasurable waste of resources and rejection of consumer desires has left public education borderline immoral. As well, if an educated citizenry is to be considered necessary for the operation of the republican government, then it is an inexcusable conflict of interest when elected officials are the ones in charge of providing that education. Furthermore, the argument of externalities and nonexcludability fails to buttress the case for socialist education. The only ethical, reasonable system for the provision of primary education is the free market.

Operation Vasity Blues ~ Parents buy admittance to Elite Colleges for their lazy trust fund babies

Parents paid from $200,000 to $6,500,000 for guaranteed admission.

These parents know that if you want to be part of the American Aristocracy, you have to go through the Ivy League check point. A lot of this involved coaches and athletic programs, where was the NCAA

I keep telling our host here that he can have 10 doctorates and it won't equal one Ivy League degree. If Dr Hash had gotten a degree from Harvard or Yale, he would have been elected long ago and would be famous now.

………………. but were all equal in America :shhh:
