You are saying that all the damage hurricanes do is because of poor planning? Do you feel this way about all the other major hurricanes? I was in Irma and lost power and cell service and we had downed trees all over the area - we couldn't leave our neighborhood for the first two days.
Is that my fault?
Our half-ass powerline system is responsible, and we're responsible for not putting it under ground. So when a tree takes out the power, yes, your fault. And if you live in Florida and don't own a chainsaw, nor does anyone in your neighborhood, then yes, it's also your fault for getting stuck there because of some trees.
You are like the embodiment of that pesky passive voice teachers are always talking about. Everything happens
to you.

Anyone else over on the wayback machine looking for the hanoi dan thread?
That's where I am, but I don't really know where to look.

Used to surf it for pages on the monster thread. I made a thread about it. Extremely sparse pickings.

You have never been through a hurricane.
I've been through four of them, two tornadoes, a few earthquakes and I've had a sinkhole try to eat me once... on top of that I've been shot at, I've been stabbed, I've had someone try to use a wire to kill me, I've had handcuffs used on me, and I've been beaten up by a group (after I took out a few of them trying to protect someone).
Don't tell me what I haven't been through.
I see that you didn't put fire on the list?

Well that time he walked through fire comes off a little over the top when you tell the story.

We don’t put power lines underground for a whole host of reasons. Not least of which is the electrocution hazard.

Underground powerlines are pretty sweet when there is a storm.

No. There's only one reason. We're cheap.
Power lines are underground in other countries. Trees falling in storms doesn't knock out the power when the lines are underground. Plus power lines are ugly as shit. You'd know if you ever saw what it looks like without them.
