The silver lining in this is that now quite a lot of people are becoming more skeptical of the value of federation, especially on the democrat side where there has before now been an obsession with controlling the federal government to force their agenda upon the rest of America. Now they got a taste of what it's like to be on the other side of that relationship, and they are talking about taking net neutrality to the states.

The FCC Chairman is wrong to claim the power to preempt state regulations. The broadband companies years ago went to court to block the FCC from preempting state laws they bribed the republicans into passing that criminalized municipal broadband, which is why there exists no competition to them in most of America today. They won that case and, ironically, that's the very case that is going to come back to haunt them.

While destroying the free market on the Internet is a fucking awful development, it doesn't seem likely to stand, and if going through this battle means the federal government is weakened and states regain their rights and power to regulate their own commerce, then that's a good thing in the long run.

It's still a disaster for Trump no matter how he tries to sell it. Net neutrality was overwhelmingly popular with the American people, including most republicans. The very rural voters that Trump needs to turn out are the people most damaged by this crony capitalist farce that just happened too. It's going to be that much more difficult for him to convince these people that Trump will put Americans first when they can well see Trump putting Comcast first before the American people.

It's a shitty move by these merchant cunts who for almost a century made careers out of losing to democrats for their profit, but anything that weakens the federal government in the long run isn't a total loss.

And.. it's not like the FCC chairman is going to be able to stop state net neutrality laws. That part is laughable. Not as laughable as the so-called state's rights posters defending this, but pretty close.

Looks like the democrats are going to force some kind of vote that doesn't require the majority leader to assent to it. This is going to hurt republicans there too. Net neutrality is deeply popular amongst the electorate, including most republican voters.

Trump just handed the democrats so much ammunition. It's really amazing that he would do this. This is the first time since he took office that the democrats actually have some popular issue against Trump.

Again: the very rural and rust belt voters Trump needs are the ones who are worst affected by this farce.
