Why have elections, if we just know people are going to try some shit? Just let the pollsters decide. The potential for widespread fraud is there for any system. Hell, your example that you posted had nothing to do with mail in ballots. The example you provided could not have happened with mail ballots. Sure other concerns will be present. There is no perfect system. Mail in ballot give people options so they don't have to go to the polls.
