i'm not sure how trump expects the US to remain energy independent when he keeps threatening american jobs in the oil and gas industry by advocating for lower oil prices
The two things are not connected. LOL
how so? perhaps i'm wrong but what is energy independence, producing our own oil and not depending on foreign imports? what of the american oilfields and american workers that are hurt by lower oil prices? obviously the price was ridiculous when it was over $100/bbl but my job is threatened if it continues to go down in price, we lost 3 employees during the last downturn when it got into the $20s

Christ, Trump is like the rooster who thinks he caused the sun to rise. Gee, look who was in charge during most of the US production rise!

Trump has expanded exploration, extraction and natural gas use. That's why we are energy independent. This was something that most thought was impossible, when 9 Presidents attempt it and only one achieves it, that president should get credit for putting the US in a much more stable position with energy globally.

Further this is not something most countries are ever going to achieve.
Why do you think he pulled out of the Paris agreement?
Look at the spreading Yellow Vest protest.

you are only looking at crude oil, and excluding major factors to energy independence including Coal and Natural Gas.

Prices were low because Saudis glutted global supply in order to keep us from developing our oil reserves. Their strategy was to reduce prices to the point that it became uneconomical for American oil companies to develop these resources. But the prices they needed to reach that condition turned out to be lower than they could economically justify; i.e. the profit Saudis would receive at that production target is lower than if they never bothered and America developed the resources.

To wit, they absolutely glutted global supply for years, driving prices down, and American oil industries still managed to innovate such that they profitably developed those reserves anyway.

Furthermore, our energy independence, really oil independence, is an effect of technological innovation and government policy to open up our reserves. What workers get paid has nothing directly to do with how much oil we consume and produce, and has literally no causative effect on production at all.

Bit of a vague answer which doesn't seem relevant to the point but I'll give it a guess.
Are you saying that he is too scared to do anything about climate control in case he becomes even more unpopular?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Coal has not actually risen much if at all since Trump, and gas, like oil, continues the rise started before even the Obama Presidency. If you have different numbers, show them.

i know all the saudi arabia stuff, higher oil prices will help me personally so naturally i don't care about the market fundamentals, i just want trump to shut the hell up when it comes to oil

anyway what does zerohedge have to say today
Saudis Reportedly Target US Inventories By Slashing Oil Exports

WTI prices briefly popped above $52 before fading quickly after Bloomberg reported that after flooding the US market in recent months, Saudi Arabia plans to slash exports starting in January in an effort to dampen visible build-ups in crude inventories.

Bloomberg reports that, according to people briefed on the plans of state oil company Saudi Aramco, American-based oil refiners have been told to expect much lower shipments from the kingdom in January than in recent months following the OPEC agreement to reduce production

Oil traders were not that impressed...

And while the plan to slash Saudi exports to America may ultimately convince a skeptical oil market about the kingdom’s resolution to bring supply and demand incline, it may anger President Trump, who has used social media to ask the Saudis and OPEC to keep the taps open.

@realDonaldTrump

Hopefully OPEC will be keeping oil flows as is, not restricted. The World does not want to see, or need, higher oil prices!

My mill was nearly wiped out by the last oil glut. The night shift went from 15 people to just me and a foreman before the end of it. Lots of people lose their jobs in the oil field during boom/bust. It's pretty normal really.
