The builders remedy was supposed to deal with that. In reality, it just forces overconstruction in areas without the infrastructure to carry an increased population. And the middle class pays for it,
What's the "builders remedy" and how does it force overconstruction?

Its more of a low-info pandering move, with the benefits of payoffs, revenue, and short-term statistical boosts.
Not a vast conspiracy of “the left”, just politicians doing what politicians do.
I didn't say it was a conspiracy, let alone a vast one. Just expressing how proponents of rent control react when you bring it up.
Right on. But don’t assign malice to it - at least not outside of the halls of power. The average idiot really is hoping it will help.

True enough I suppose. But sometimes it is a liberal conspriacy, eg, San Francisco property owners preventing construction to drive up rent.

You see property owners agitating for rent controls? That seems unlikely.

I said they prevent construction, which drives up cost. Rents are the highest in the country precisely because of this.

In NJ, a lawsuit brought by a developer against a town without an approved affordable housing plan allows the developer to build massive developments as long as a percentage of the units are set aside for low and moderate income.
