There's a pretty legit argument to be made that communicable disease control is a public good. Not a lazy argument, but it's available to those who are willing to make the effort.

I was all settled in for a nice round of Youtube videos and Mises articles about how, no actually the government has no business telling people what disease they should and shouldn't be afraid of, or how often you should wash your hands, and I mean do you even know what they put in those so-called "vaccines" these days, or that they continue to keep canisters of smallpox around "just in case", and capped off with a tangent about how it would all be more efficiently handled by the private sector anyway, if it's even really that much of a concern in the first place.

That said, why on earth would anyone be opposed to increased funding for the CDC? These are the people in charge of preventing, controlling, and eradicating disease. Measles, mumps and rubella are making a comeback, bioweapons (including smallpox) could be released, viruses like Ebola are extant, and flu pandemics are always a threat.

The CDC exposed 84 of their own employees to anthrax spores, and even left vials of smallpox just lying around in some university lab, the CDC is a clown show, most likely vector for a deadly pathogen outbreak in the US is the CDC itself, and it has nothing to do with funding, per capita they spend more per employee than the defense department does, the military budget is $350,000 per employee, CDC is $466,000 per employee, so they're better funded than the Pentagon, and not marginally, 28% better funded than the Pentagon in fact
