It's one of the most regressive and cynical taxes I have ever seen in my life. It's literally a stamp tax that's tied to the MSRP of a vehicle that drops each year at a rate less than the vehicle actually depreciates. On top of that you are required to pay for a vehicle inspection and emissions test.
The only butchers around here not part of a grocery store chain or something like Walmart are in the Mexican town. I don't trust that meat one bit, and I probably wouldn't be able to communicate with them.
Damn that sucks. NC has an income tax also, IIRC according to my classmate in Charlotte.
So you all have state income tax, state sales tax, AND a bullshit wheel tax?
I bitch a lot (A LOT --
surprising I know) about our EXTREMELY regressive 10.75% state+local sales tax on EVERYTHING from chicken mcnuggets on up to diamond rings, but we don't have an income tax, and in my county car tags are $57.50 per year (plus the cronyist inspection fee of $10) whether you drive a 2018 F-650 or a 2004 F-150.
So, I'm thankful for that. And in a weird sort of way, I'm thankful for the yankees moving here by the hundreds per day from NY and CA; they suck but they come here with a strong motivation to serve the market and make mad stacks.
Plus, I can drive 2 hours and get totally the fuck away from them when I want to.
