The rejection from JW does say a lot though, real talk. He has a sheltered viewpoint to most things, especially guns. Explains a lot. Also might be a curse, leave the religion get a dirty dick.

I wasn't joking. You said you were raised in a church that forbade you from interacting with people outside your church. I said that was a cult. No Christian church forbids its members from interaction with those outside the church. Kinda flies in the face of the word of Christ to be forbidden from speaking to those outside the church, what with,GrumpyCatFace wrote:Whatever helps you to insult me, for no reason, I guess. That you confirm your fucked up mind is the product of the JW is just icing on the cake.
I guess I should feel sorry for you.
Farewell, vain world! I’m going home!
My Savior smiles and bids me come,
And I don’t care to stay here long!
Yeah, I joke about it being a cult - and it is, as much as any organized religion - but in the sense of ritual abuse, or bizarre incantations, no. Catholics still hold the title in that area.
Doesn't seem like Jesus was on board with whatever message your false church was preaching. Sorry dude.“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

and I don't care to stay here long,
Farewell, vain world! I'm going home!
My savior smiles and bids me come,
And I don't care to stay here long!
Sweet angels beckon me away,
To sing God's praise in endless day,
And I don't care to stay here long!
(Chorus:)
Right up yonder, Christians, away up yonder,
O, yes my Lord, for I don't care to stay here long.
I'm glad that I am born to die,
From grief and woe my soul shall fly,
And I don't care to stay here long!
Bright angels shall convey me home,
Away to New Jerusalem,
And I don't care to stay here long!
(Chorus:)
Right up yonder, Christians, away up yonder,
O, yes my Lord, for I don't care to stay here long.
(Chorus:)
Right up yonder, Christians, away up yonder,
O, yes my Lord, for I don't care to stay here long

Lol wow, there’s some ignorance. But I won’t wave it in your face, like I’m desperate to score Cool Points.Okeefenokee wrote:I wasn't joking. JWs do more evangelizing than any other group anywhere. From the age of 5, I was knocking doors with my parents to spread The Word. It’s a weekly thing, expected of all members.
You aren’t forbidden from speaking to anyone. You’re discouraged from “associating” with people outside the faith. And, the strain of not celebrating holidays with the rest of the family kind of severed a lot of bonds. I’ve met my cousins probably 3 times, ever.
They walk and talk the Bible, completely. If you ever bother to read the book, you’ll see that they take the gospel seriously, in every way. It’s really the ideal Christian religion, and that’s why I call it ‘fundamentalist’. They don’t compromise, they don’t shape their religion to “the times”, and they don’t put up with slackers, let alone abuse.
That’s why I’d be absolutely shocked if there was anything to this. It would seriously damage a whole lot of very good, though misguided, people.

If we can't take dishonest cheap shots on a subject sensitive to opponents, you shouldn't post here, ever. Fuck that, fuck them, and fuck you.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Lol wow, there’s some ignorance. I have a friend who was abused by the JW's until she got out in her 30's. Her family has shunned her ever since; not having spoken to her in 15 years. She hated every minute of that life and only stayed so long because she didn't want to lose her mother. Those are some crazy-assed people.

It saddens me to hear about the accusation, but I seriously doubt it's true. Everyone that I ever met in the organization was completely sincere.
Well, that explains a lot.

Being forced at a very young age to walk around knocking on stranger's doors to spread the "truth," is pretty abusive, don't you think? I don't remember all the ins and outs; we rarely talk about it. I do know she was forbidden to read anything other than church approved books.GrumpyCatFace wrote:How exactly was she abused?Kath wrote:I have a friend who was abused by the JW's until she got out in her 30's. And, knowing your parents will never speak to you again if you leave is a pretty compelling reason to stay. That's why it takes so many so long to leave.
It scream cult and all cults are abusive.

No, I really don't think. It was certainly different than most other childhood activities, but it was never anything that I'd describe as "abusive". If anything, it gave me a lot of early insight into the world.Kath wrote:Being forced at a very young age to walk around knocking on stranger's doors to spread the "truth," is pretty abusive, don't you think?GrumpyCatFace wrote:How exactly was she abused?Kath wrote:I have a friend who was abused by the JW's until she got out in her 30's. That might have been her parents' rules. I read hundreds of books (literally), by the age of 8.I don't remember all the ins and outs; we rarely talk about it. I do know she was forbidden to read anything other than church approved books.
Agree, and I do resent that, a bit. There are pros to it, though. The community was like nothing I've ever seen since. Similar to the Amish, the whole group would gather together to help any of the members that needed it. They literally build their own Kingdom Halls (churches) over a weekend, with the members performing 99% of the work. And, knowing your parents will never speak to you again if you leave is a pretty compelling reason to stay. That's why it takes so many so long to leave.

Again, it's different. Not necessarily a "cult", and certainly nothing that I would describe as a "cult", in the Jim Jones/suicidal/militant sense.
