My bad - I thought you were chastising the people in this thread. And, I agree. I trust the FB promises it won't save the photos as much as I believed the TSAs promises that they wouldn't keep the nudies from the porn-o-matics.

Well, the idea is that they are not saving your photo at all. They created some kind of hash function that reduces your photos to a hash table which can be used to filter out any attempt at uploading future images that match it. It's not really the image itself they are storing. It's probably not possible to go the other way either and take one of those hash codes and produce an image. So in that sense, it would be safe.

Where it likely goes wrong is in doing the processing on Facebook servers. It would be better to install a client application that does the calculation from local files and simply uploads the hash codes.

If any of you weren't so knee-deep in neo-Marxist and globalist politics, you would have seen this in effect already. During the election, Facebook made a lot of pro-Trump memes impossible to upload. Basically, you'd try to upload the image, and it would just keep saying there is a problem uploading it. But you could upload other images just fine. Changing the file name and modifying it a little didn't help either. They are just talking about extending this ridiculously corrupt application into something that is actually not a bad idea.

The main problem is that most revenge porn seems to get uploaded to porn sites rather than Facebook, and those sites won't do anything about it because it makes them money.

The best recourse to revenge porn is probably old-school style revenge in which some brothers ambush these guys one night. If a dude knows his ex-girlfriend has a few brothers who will totally wreck his shit if he does something like that, then it's not as likely to happen..
