I was talking to my dad about this scenario just a couple nights ago. I looked around my neighborhood, said, "Every house you see has guns. The first thing we would do is form a local militia. That would work initially then some of the guys would be called up to their National Guard units.
They'll protect other families like they want their family to be protected. National Guard shoots looters. Internet won't go down, there will be plenty of food, just nothing exotic. Everybody will plant something. After 6 months, the National Guard will come home. Things will be secure & normal, and life will slowly ramp up again.
