I particularily liked this graph
I probably read too much into this graph, but here goes.
Huge spike in confidence at Gulf War period.
Smaller bump in Clinton era Iraq crisis, followed by a loss of confidence with dot com bust
Then bump in confidence post 9/11, followed by a loss of confidence as GWOT drags on
Bump when we elect 1st Black POTUS, that drops and flatlines as we support Arab Spring and get involved in Libya
After Libya, a steady decline in popularity.
