It's not just the usual ignorance here working.

Soviet Union wasn't defeated as the Third Reich was and as the current leadership of Russia sees the dissolution of the Soviet Union as the greatest tragedy in history, you aren't going any change here. The aggressiveness of Russia has been and will be refuted by the left.

Those who supported Soviet Union in the West are in no way stigmatized as those that supported Hitler and fascism before WW2. Basically what you can now do is to read some quotes of Lenin to young leftist Americans and they'll think it's cool with fresh ideas. The bloody past will be forgotten.

Here's Lenin writing about the US Elections (during his time):
In all bourgeois countries, the parties which stand for capitalism, i.e., the bourgeois parties, came into being a long time ago, and the greater the extent of political liberty, the more solid they are.

Freedom in the U.S.A. is most complete. And for a whole half-century—since the Civil War over slavery in 1860–65—two bourgeois parties have been distinguished there by remarkable solidity and strength. The party of the former slave-owners is the so-called Democratic Party. The capitalist party, which favoured the emancipation of the Negroes, has developed into the Republican Party.

Since the emancipation of the Negroes, the distinction between the two parties has been diminishing. The fight between these two parties has been mainly over the height of customs duties. Their fight has not had any serious importance for the mass of the people. The people have been deceived and diverted from their vital interests by means of spectacular and meaningless duels between the two bourgeois parties.

This so-called bipartisan system prevailing in America and Britain has been one of the most powerful means of preventing the rise of an independent working-class, i.e., genuinely socialist, party.

And now the bipartisan system has suffered a fiasco in America, the country boasting the most advanced capitalism! What caused this fiasco?

The strength of the working-class movement, the growth of socialism.

The American position evolved based on circumstance, once the Third Reich was defeated, America embraced Fascism as a bulwark against Communism, but once the Domino Theory was discredited, America enbraced the idea that it wasn't just one big uniform block of Commies, and so Nixon went to China to make peace with them, in order to exploit the differences between Communist sworn enemies and so win the Cold War.

America's Domino Theory unilateral no negotiation strategy against the Communists, was actually a miserable failure, when America decided that there were different factions and that some of them America could do business with and some of them America could not, that's actually when America started to win the war.

Well, American's increasing attraction to Communism is certainly a "win" for the Communists.

Which ones? The Chinese? The Vietnamese? The Cubans? There's no unitary block of Communists all reporting to Communist Central Command, and most of the Communists are actually not allied and many are sworn enemies, so a win for one Communist can be a loss for another.

Is a win for the Chinese a win for the Cubans? No, in fact, the Cubans are more reliant on not Communist anymore Russia, the Chinese Communist agenda actually threatens Cuba's Communist agenda.

Is a win for the Chinese a win for the Vietnamese? Certainly not, the Vietnamese consider themselves to be in mortal peril from Beijing.

I'm actually under informed on this. Is Vietnam still communist? What's going on over there? I was under the impression they are doing ok right now.

Vietnam is a Communist dictatorship which represses all internal dissent against it, but is none the less the sworn enemies of the Communist dictatorship in Beijing, and in fact always has been, right back to the beginning, not only did the Viet Minh fear a Chinese invasion more than they feared an American invasion, in the wake of the Paris Peace Accords which split the country, the Viet Minh asserted that it was in fact the Soviets and Chinese who had betrayed them.

Oh, and before you say "Communists don't do business", that's not actually true, and in fact, Stalin is the only Communist dictator to ever effect full collectivization, killing 7 million people in the process, but as soon as Stalin was dead, even the Soviets walked that back and started to do business again, and yes, in US dollars as they did.

China, N. Korea, Vietnam, Laos & Cuba are declared Communist, and the Communist Party is the most influential in Cambodia, (huge building, lots of signs). However, the word "Communism" is simply the name of a Party, like the Baaths & Nazis were just Parties. The Communist Party is the embodiment of Marxism with some changes to benefit the ruling Class, and Marxism is making a re-emergence throughout Europe.
