Do you see Apple complaining? No cause in return Apple gets to produce said IPhone for dirt cheap and ignore any labor and environmental standards. I am not saying I am for it but if their government doesnt care about their own people, why should apple but in that spirit, why should our government give a fuck about Apple's IP? Two waystreet that.Speaker to Animals wrote:California wrote:Nailed it. They like the "idea" of free markets and only like deregulation in order to take advantage of it.Speaker to Animals wrote:
They don't even believe in free markets, though. It's just a slogan they use as an excuse to push a policy when it benefits them. When it doesn't, republicans and their benefactors are about as anti-free market as you can get. The pro-illegal immigration and H1B policies are literally price fixing. They are trying to undermine the free market for labor prices. They don't give a flying fuck about free markets unless it means they get more money. They are mammon worshipers.
And free market never means open borders, unless you're an anarchocapitalist. But that's just as insane as full socialism
Open borders is equivalent to no patents, trade secret laws, or copyrights. If China wants to reverse engineer the iPhone and sell the exact same thing to Americans for half the price Apple is charging, then that's okay. Free markets, dude!

If China started producing their own iPhone copies and selling them in the US you don't think Apple would complain?

Re: China and the 'White Left'
The fact is, these mammon worshipers want protectionism for businesses and no protections for labor. If they actually believed in absolute free markets, there'd be no patents or copyrights. Anybody could reverse engineer something and, if they can sell it at a lower price for a profit, can and should do so.
That's exactly what they have done to the labor markets. People like Paul Ryan believe that if somebody from the third world is willing to walk to America and take up a job for half what an American is paid to do the same job, then that's the free market; but yet I don't see him working to undo protections for businesses.
Don't come jive talking to me about protectionism for me but not for thee.
What I have come to realize is that what makes a true "right" is the protection of boundaries (moral and physical) as well as the preservation of your group. In this country, our group is defined as some kind of civic nationalism in which immigration is controlled and immigrants are assimilated. If you oppose that, then you hardly are "right". You are just another leftist with a pro-business economic ideology.
Go back and look at history. What you would call the "right" had economic ideas that were all over the place. What puts it all together is the defense of your people, borders, and the moral development of your nation. Augustus Caesar was right wing as fuck and he didn't care about that economic stuff. He cared about the defense of Roman territory, it's people, and protecting them from degeneracy (hence Ovid's getting the boot to the Balkans).
This marriage of the right with free market ideology (basically the elevation of Mammon to a god) seems to have begun with Edmond Burke. Even in the 19th century prominent conservative intellectuals like G.K. Chesterton rebuked it.

Have you noticed the the economic Elites ostensibly on the Left act just the same? Hence support almost the same policies as the Right, even if they talk a different game.

The Elites are able to intimidate people with their supposed superior intellect or knowledge. I ran into it all the time back-in-the-day, and I was a buzzsaw. They hated me. Hard to claim you're an expert when a guy with 7 advanced degrees, awards, and licenses is sitting across the table, and can sling veiled insults like a mutterfukker. I would LOVE to debate one of these jackoffs, but of course, they won't debate. (SJWs are even worse.)jbird4049 wrote:So. Freaking. A lot of the conservatives are against unregulated free markets, and capitalism. Some business leaders too. It is not just many the on the economic left. The solutions might be disagreed on, but the "Free Markets are God" shtick, and to Hell with people as a problem is agreed on by many people along the political spectrum.Speaker to Animals wrote:The fact is, these mammon worshipers want protectionism for businesses and no protections for labor.
