Constitutionally the monarch is supposed to remain impartial. There was quite a big scandal when he called a planned extension to the national gallery

The only reason to demand the monarch's resignation would be onset of mentally impairing illness. And in such a case, dementia or Alzheimers for example, I think Queen Elizabeth would agree and resign without any parliamentary encouragement.

Otherwise, though.... let them represent the state till they drop dead, if if they're able. They should be able to resign, imo, but such a resignation would be final and irreverseable. If they have served well into old age, if they've done their duty as expected of them, I would say they should have the right to step down. Your queen certainly has done her part. Not that I expect she will want to. She's like our queen in that regard. Neither she or the people want her to step down unless her health drastically deteriorates.
