Oh, that... Absolutely. I'd been crossing over and adding notes to all those historical misconceptions in the documents and books I've come across at the archive I've worked at. It's really such a pain to write with a black marker on 300 year old paper, but one does need to correct the record. Be so much easier to delete and edit all those silly ideas they had back in the day if it all went digital. We should do the same with historical artifacts, come to think of it. Put those 3D printers to good use.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:Oh, you know.
Now that we know better, we can simply search and replace information with whatever is new and improved. We would hate for people to have errors of thought because of outdated literature.
Hell, once we are able to ram people's smartphones directly into their brains, we won't even have to wait for them to search for something to update their thinking.

Absolutely. Plus, then we can put a bra and panties on the Venus of Willendorf, and thin her up a bit, 'cause no fatties and no nudity. Like god intended.

Naturally. Though with some exceptions for the, even more, economically strapped institutions of art and history. For the late night exhibitions for the historically depraved and deprived: Embiggen the penises of ancient and Rennaisance statues to pay for storage space.

It's a really dangerous phenomenon.
You see, one of the real wonders of getting into a great library and walking through the shelves is that you can find awesome books you never ever thought existed. And it takes far less time to hold in your hands a book, look through it if it's interesting than to do the same with any electric device. When searching for something from the net, you have to know what your looking for.

Print is needed. With everything that can be "edited to be corrected" sounds to me a lot like what Nazi Germany was attempting to do to rewrite history.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:This is fantastic.
Once all information is stored digitally and networked, it will be so much easier to 'correct' mistakes in the record, unfettered from the shibboleth of print.

Whatever grandpa. I don't have time for all that nonsense as I will be otherwise engaged kicking too many flips on my wheelie board. The Conservative wrote:Print is needed. For the amount of money the books were supposed to be worth, they could've built an addition.

Most libraries that I know would get rid of old books by trying to sell them (at a really, really low price of like .50 for a paperback and a 1.00 for hardbacks). Burning books, IMO, has that certain ring to them that really is like this:

It would not surprise me at all to learn that most of the books are those the progs find inconvenient, and that's why they are destroyed rather than sold.
