like General Washington used this leverage in the War of Indepedence

Congress was constantly trying to tell him what to do and he basically told them to fuck off

then Congress wouldn't threaten to cut off funds

Washington would then say, go ahead, and then the British will come and hang you from the nearest tree

so Congress was all, never mind, General Washington, carry on

they basically do the same thing now

they say to the Congressman, go ahead, you be the one to say you want to disband the army, we dare you to say that
Maybe one day "Defund the police" will make it's way over to the military.
I doubt it tho.
Commies love the army.
It's the only thing keeping them alive when their policies start playing out into mass starvation.

main point being tho, you can't really compare 1st century Romans to Americans

those Romans did not fight over politics, they didn't fight over morality, they didn't fight over right & wrong

they didn't even beleive in the concept of right & wrong

they had no Christian values at all, they were pagans, they thought the gods were manipulative spirits who needed to be appeased

killing & dying for some cause greater than themselves, was totally alien to them

they only fought for honour, which was security, and power, which was wealth

they were all mercenaries basicially, none of them really thought the Republic was their responsibility

it was only the Republic of the Patricians, the Plebs had no say at all in the Republic, it was above their pay grade

again, the Plebs did not like the Republic, they thought it was a con, the Plebs liked the Empire, that is what they wanted

the Emperor was hated by the rich people, loved by the people in the street

because the Emperor was so rich, he could afford to pay for massive public works, games, and festivals

Bread & Circuses was how the Emperor ruled

I think the future is still American, it's just a question of whether that will be an American republic or not
I was trying to make some sense of this conversation.... and I had to go a few pages back to pick up the thread.

I agree.... the future is still American.

But what do you mean when you say it's a question of whether that will be an American republic or not?

What else might it be?

And how are you proposing it might change?

Just spit it out already.....

Forget Rome.

again, there is no bright line between republic and empire, many empires call themselves republics including Rome

Which one is it?

Which one do you wish it was?

And what's your point when you keep going on about maybe it will be a republic and maybe it won't....

It feels like you are being evasive.

Is anyone else confused about this, or am I missing something?
