Yes it was. But IronicSockAccount is right. These aren't communists like during the Russian Revolution. They are hardly communists at all. They are a symptom of the upcoming post capitalist world order. In a way they are reactionary. Capitalism is loosing it's power to the network society. Communism was a part of capitalism. It was a utopian experiment built upon capitalist machinery.
The new paradigm shift is from the Capitalism to Informationalism, the emerging society of information networks, shaped by digital interactivity is as profound as the shift from feudalism to capitalism. The old elite is being replaced by the Netocrats and the new Proletariat is the Consumtariat.
You all need to read The Netocracts: Futurica Trilogy 1 by Alexander Bard and Jan Soderqvist. It was written 20 year ago but it must be one of the most prophetic books of later time. They foresaw the rise of Google, Facebook, Al-Qaida and Wikileaks. They also predicted fake news, media driven politics, social media censorship and cancel culture. I just reread it and its just amazing how much they got right.

The reason I say they are reactionary is because of their mostly nostalgic drive. They are trying to ignite some spirit of revolution were the workers are awakened and realizing their collective power by class consciousness they seize the means of production and bring about a socialist utopia.

The third wavers aren't the proletariat. They aren't factory workers producing the surplus that is making the bourgeoisie rich. That time is over. The new underclass is better named the consumertariat or the transfertariat if you want to properly describe their role in society. So you have black leaders giving money to black middle class civil servants that server the poor black community. Sweden. We were one of the last countries in Europe to become Christianized. We then had a reformation after about 700 years of popery. Most Swedes are still some kind of half pagans.
I believe all people are religious. No one is capable of living a life only based on some sort of rationality. Everyone simplifies their life by a set of heuristics. These are often picked up from the environment i which we live. Organized religion can become incredibly important in times when we can't trust the information we get from other sources. It can also be dangerous if left unopposed.
I'm an ironic Christian myself. I find the morals and teaching to be helpful and true to a large extent but I don't believe that Jesus died and was resurrected and that he came about by immaculate conception.
