I think their is a sort of detached transient nature to the cosmo person that usually is off putting. The World of strangers in a 200k + city isn't for everyone but it's become how many people live and interact. Giant suburbs are a bit worse even to be honest. Having 10+ ethnicities and marriage customes clustered about one another works kinda if people are making good money or reliable income at least...take that away and well poof goes the cosmo * appeal*. The forum has talked endlessly about urban vs rural but the suburb is usually worse.
that's what I said to my wife

she wanted out of downtown Toronto

I said I would go, so long as we went all the way

we're not stopping in Mississauga, we are going right out to Wellington County amongst the woods & streams

that's the one place I never fit in, the suburbs

I grew up in the inner city, it was cosmopolitan, and I loved it

then I joined the army, it was redneck, and I loved that too

the suburbs in between is basically just an immigrant ghetto wasteland

Kelowna BC is where it is at.

Nestled in the Mountains in a gorgeous valley.

We are on the west side of the lake in an elevated community overlooking the valley.

The cosmos are on the east side... trying to create mini Vancouver/Calgary...

The west side is chill - more local BC types... the WestBank Res is over here too, but they mostly keep to themselves.

We are totally in love with this place.

I was born in British Columbia, my American grandmother's family was British Columbian

my great grandfather was 72nd Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in the First World War, from Vancouver

there was a time that I did love British Columbia, it felt like home

but over time it has become alien to my Upper Canadian sensibilities, so I can't abide it now

if I am going to visit a Lotus Land, it ain't gonna be to rainy old British Columbia

I'd be going to California, Big Sur to Coronado, down the coast highway & through the desert

none the less, Kelowna is indeed an ironclad real estate market, playground of the elites

but I'd still rather be in Malibu than Kelowna

No rain in Kelowna...

Semi desert... wine country and world class skiing. Champagne powder.

Much like California... except with skiing.

4 of the best beaches in Canada... on fresh water lakes.
Hot girls in bikinis all summer.

indeed, the primary real estate issue in Kelowna is forest fire

in terms of hot girls in bikinis in summer, I'm a bit old for that, they would be nothing but an annoyance

as for beaches, I've got a lovely secluded beach here on a scenic river, one hundred yards from my back gate

the only place in Canada we are keen to visit, is Quebec City, where my wife & I were married

Plains of Abraham, birthplace of British North America, 13 September 1759

je me souviens

OK Just exactly like California...

But with four seasons and a longer ski season.

Freshwater lakes instead of ocean.

The local natives call it Na ha ha eet.

Us "colonizers" call it Ogopogo.

Its a cute tourist attraction.

Lake Tahoe is bigger.
