I liked the episode, and really looking forward to the next one, Nanking bout to get real. But man, 6 months before the next installment comes out, ugh.

I'm sure that the rest of the world emphasizes aspects of our history that are ignored in school. We have no shortage of things to ignore...

No doubt. You can't teach kids everything nor should you even if you could some how. I think it was funny the broadcaster was suggesting that it was awful there was a memorial for all those that died fighting for Imperial Japan. Similar maybe to Confederate statues, no? My point was that his faux comparison with Trump, nationalism, populism, America/Japan was hilarious if it wasn't so biased and wrong headed.

Its very fascinating thinking about the beginning of contact and trade with Japan dating back to 1543. The culture clash and all that entails seems to be a picture perfect subject for ol Dan Carlin to tackle. He loves the idea of cultures clashing and first encounters etc. Wrath of Khans, Globalization to death (Magellan), the Aztec/Spanish etc. etc. Its amazing how closed Japan was say compared with another great island nation Britain but with the British I guess since Europe was there and not China that partly explains why they didn't want or were even able to close off others even if they wanted. (*i know they didn't really want that and no Europeans really did...all that mercantilism and expansion etc. was too juicy) but you get what I mean...or not.

I'm about halfway through, taking it in bite size chunks through the week so my short attention span can handle. I find myself zoning out on some of the longer Carlin podcasts these days.

Great subject and set up so far, I really don't feel like waiting 6 months for part 2

No one wants to wait half a year for part 2 of anything. I really cannot comprehend how he earns a good living (i'd figure at least 75K or more to make it worthwhile to just do two shows a year and be ok financially) I mean how much is Audible paying him, seriously? How much is he getting a month from fans in patreon/pay pal donations...
