Here's a 13yo doing more with the Indianapolis story than Dan could manage. Dan could have made this much better by telling the whole story to the pretty recent conclusion. It could have been done like an American Life story with that midway twist and the surprise ending.

Started listening then got sidetracked by some Max Hastings' reports from the war.

I listened to Hastings' Korean War audiobook. I wish Dan had interviewed him about that tbh. Everyone knows about Vietnam and often uses analogies and lessons from that conflict, but Korea is pretty much something Americans have collective amnesia about, beyond the show MASH. At least 33000 Americans died in this conflict. Shit, I read somewhere that over 50000 died. Either way, that is a huge number of casualties. There are still some veterans alive from this conflict, but you rarely see interviews with them. The most common explanation I've heard for this lack of discussion is the fact that Korea was sandwiched between 2 infamous wars, WW2 and Vietnam, so it gets overlooked. However, with all this Kim KoreaDashian drama going on right now and the rocket concerns, you'd think this war would come back into focus.

I felt that episode was not all that good. Didn't really learn much new about the war. To be honest, I would have rather Dan simply gotten more POW stories out of Hastings. Also, Dan's 45 minute introduction is all shit he has discussed ad nauseum in various common sense episodes. He didn't uncover even a shovel full of new ground. It really feels like he isn't trying anymore. I hope he didn't make a penny off of this half assed episode.

Cuckolding has a price, as does releasing episodes once ever 2 and a half years. I hope Dan's reddit groupies enjoyed this episode, because I'm not going to support his lazy ass ever again. I will still listen to the show though.
