Great Military SF novel for what seems to be a new writer. Narrator is awesome.
Do you ever read anything by Arthur C Clarke? I have Childhood's End and 2001 sitting around somewhere, but I've never actually started them.

I read a lot of his stuff. Childhood's End is one of his better novels.

I started reading Dynasty by Tom Holland. Basically a sequel to Rubicon. The man can write.

About 2/3 through the second book. It's really good. The narrator is amazing. Same guy who narrated The Martian.

I started reading this introductory book on the crusades by Jonathan Riley Smith. I have about a half dozen other books on the Crusades, including this awesome reference book I got at a used booksale, but I never had the time to read them. This will probably be my next big reading project, which will slow way down once the semester starts. The crusades are one of the most politicized historical events and most people going in make all kinds of inaccurate assumptions. The real history is far more nuanced than people realize. This also leads to sloppy parallels with current day imperialism and the war on terror.

Is it me, or is Ready Player One just a Hackers reboot?

Yeah, Rubicon read more like a novel than a history but his anti-imperial bias is so out in the open it is annoying

Reading Rubicon right now. Already one of the better books I've seen.
