Remember he more or less wrote the soundtrack for the Euro LGBT pride movement back when it got started.

First with Army of Lovers

Then BWO

He also wrote a bunch of music for others and then quit to focus on philosophy instead.

Now he’s written a whole series of books on the new digital human condition and is a household name among contemporary philosophers.

And he’s still as likable as ever.

Just watched Taxi Driver for the first time. Good movie. Don't know how I totally feel about it yet but will say its pretty fucking good. The ending without giving away anything was a bit idk not what I would think would fit with the overall theme of the film. Anyway though, good times.

I actually felt like the ending was extremely vindicating and got a little emotional about that except for the very end scene in the taxi which was kind of a premonition of the fact the dude is fucked in the head. I don't get what all the hype is about it based on what Borzoi and Nick were talking about. I didn't feel like it was particularly deep but it was a great movie. I didn't find him going to the porno films to be a conflicting feature of the character really. I doubt he was watching them for the porno content exactly. He's just kind of a pyscho that can't sleep. I mean he's ordering candy and popcorn and trying to talk to a real female just for the sake of conversation. He's not watching them for some venal desire they probably calm him down. It's well known that porno does things to your serotonin levels and can be addicting. For a Vietnam vet with a clearly pychopathic personality they probably work on him in much the same way but his brain is wired up different than normal people. When he took his date to see one it was clear he had no idea that wasnt appropriate.

I mean my first viewing wasn't the same as Borzoi's. He was more caught off guard by the contrast he kept referencing in that podcast episode. The only thing that seemed "off" if anything was the ending. I mean he survives and doesn't even end up in prison or arrested really? I get it he killed criminals that dealt with kid prostitutes etc. he would for sure have the jury behind him but still he'd get some time in prison for murdering three people. Also, he's ridiculous obsession with revolvers instead of buying a shotgun or machine gun or something else was a bit weird too. Those are details not to fixate on just things I noticed looking back that were whatever. Overall the character Travis was a bit of a hero and he did things many say they wish they could do. Harvey Keitel was playing a jew pimp? What showed he was a jew though? As Nick pointed out. I was thrown off by the hair but hey that's the 70s for you.

That's a good question about the pimp. Idk.

He didn't just buy revolvers, he bought a lot of handguns. Clearly he was fixated with carrying a bunch of concealable weapons. What triggered me to the moon and back was he ostensibly had at least three guns on him when he went on a rampage but only fired like three shots and dropped all his guns to the point he had to pick one up from a mobster and even then when he went to shoot himself there wasn't a round left in the chamber. Are people in NYC carrying around hand guns with one or two rounds? Wtf? Also keep in mind it was the 70's and revolvers were a lot more popular back then. He was fixated on the 44 magnum after his run in with the guy that wanted to murder his wife. It was a meme gun even back then. I mean it is a cool gun even today.

As for getting off without jail time, idk that's a good question. Given the era, "local cabby kills mobsters and frees 12 year old prostitute" seems to be enough to get away with murder tbh. Today, no.

Was that Scorsese that was playing the cucked husband?
