Re: What Book Are You Reading at the Moment?
Nixon had the ruthlessness to deal with both the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong.
Arc Light.
Linebacker.
Commando Sabre.
Phoenix Program.
Vietnamization.
If America had just gone to that sooner, like kick that off in 66' instead of 69'
America would have won.
The Vietnamese were tricky, Tricky Dick could have beat them at their own game, if he had had the chance.

It was designed beginning to end. The intention was never to win. Gulf of Tonkin to the fake play by play storming of the embassy. A mighty Wurlitzer of death, destruction, and corruption. Beginning to end. Everything else is wishful thinking. And that applies to more than just the war too.

Tricky Dick did beat them in the end.
Tricky Dick flipped the Chinese and as a result the Chinese abandoned Hanoi.
Tricky Dick just didn't get a chance to save South Vietnam.
But he could have, if he had had more time.

So many liberal media myths about Vietnam.
Like the Ho Chi Minh trail could not be severed.
It's not true.
Commando Sabre was working.
They just started doing that when it was too late.
If they had come with Commando Sabre from day one, the Ho Chi Minh trail would have been reduced to a trickle.

The Viet Cong could not be defeated by force.
It's not true.
The Phoenix Program decimated the Viet Cong.
Yeah, it was brutal, but not as brutal as Search & Destroy.
And unlike Search & Destroy, the Phoenix Program was working.

Everything Nixon did was working.
It's the North Vietnamese who said so.
The liberal media had simply declared the war lost, before Nixon got a chance to take charge.

The Phoenix program was central. It was just a continuation of cybernetics. It never ended. The war is perfect cover to continue it. Winning had nothing to do with their programs.

The Phoenix Program is what everybody wanted to happen. "Vietnamization"
The South Vietnamese are vastly underrated.
When push came to shove, they did what America needed them to do.
When the VC attacked the cities, the ARVN fought them off.
The ARVN didn't want to chase them, because the ARVN knew Search & Destroy was suicidal.
When the CIA came with the Phoenix Program instead, the South Vietnamese put a beat down on the Viet Cong.

Re: What Book Are You Reading at the Moment?
Bottom line, the Democrats were mollycoddling the Communists.
When Nixon took over, he was ruthless, and that delivered immediate effects to the battlefield.
He simply calculated that the media had already convinced the public the war was lost by then.
So Nixon decided it was a lost cause, so he moved on to the next thing, which was flipping China.
Which won the Cold War.
Dick Nixon. Underrated.
