No, going from "Equality under the law, one voice - one vote" to "Orange Man Bad!!!" is not progress. It is an atavistic reversion from holding higher, if not misguided, principles to abandoning reason in favor of becoming a wild-eyed zealot for an anti-American cult.

I suspect you wouldn't celebrate Dan for abandoning his previous values in favor of some form of militant Islam. There's no reason to likewise cheer his backward move to some flavor of the militant left wing.
