I'm thinking of going through this list and see what I can make myself interested in.

It's excellent. I'm listening to the audible version on my way to work (1.5 hr commute). I read it in my teens but was way too young to process the value. In my 40s I understand why this work has withstood the test of time.Hwen Hoshino wrote:Is the Carnegie book any good?DBTrek wrote:

I like the chapter of Carnegie's book on negging. I used that to secure a promotion by asking my boss if she was a model....a hand model that is. Also of interest is the chapter where Carnegie talks about magic tricks and how to become friends with a hot girl so that other girls get jealous.

I am about 2/3 through the Ready Player One audiobook. This novel is a masterpiece.
DB, you need to get this.

I have an old ass copy of war and peace on my shelf that I am going to start soon. Sometimes I try to culture myself, but it usually doesn't happen.

Lol, good luck.
I think a lot of literature is overrated, and the novels that are truly great have fantastic, heroic, or even SF qualities.

I tried reading Ulysses in High School because I was told it was the best novel of the 20th century. I didn't make it past the first chapter, and I felt like a pretentious douchebag. I agree with you about lots of literature being overrated. I'm not a literature buff, but I try to slog my way through books that I think are important to Western Culture. I read the Iliad awhile back, and while I was reading it I tried to look up the references and history behind it. I would be lying if I told you that I understood everything without help from the internet, but it was a cool feeling to read something that was so important to so many people. Before the Bible, Homer's work was considered to be one of the most foundational texts of the West. Maybe that is pretentious of me.Speaker to Animals wrote:Lol, good luck.
