It was a lot easier to keep the losers suppressed back in the day.

Back when being nonproductive meant also having no food to harvest.
Yeah, it used to be a self regulating problem.

Property was also very widely distributed. Outside of the cities, the poor still had some land, could grow their own food, and had basic things that the poor today cannot have without some form of assistance.

We could relax the building codes to allow something more like cob homes to be built, institute a new homestead act, and train people how to homestead. Other than that, your old days are pretty well gone.

Not that this idea really has anything to do with welfare or even particularly to do with poor people, specifically.

All that sounds vastly more appealing to me than a new government bureaucracy created to bankrolling niche liability cases.

I see they’re making 800 sq ft 3-D printed homes for about $4000 now.

It's not even the same issue. Dealing with the poor really has nothing to do with this.

.... homesteading and the advent of $4000 3-D printed housing seemed like a logical pairing to me.

Pairing to a socialized liability pool?? How?

Liability insurance is for everybody, not just poor people.

Even your plumber pays for it.

Pairing to your homesteading suggestion.

Those with assets already have liability issues covered through insurance and the courts. Publicly funded liability isn’t for everybody any more than Obamacare is for everybody.

Well, I don’t think you understand moral hazard, economic efficiency, government waste, public program longevity, expansion of police powers, or the lack of Federal audits and accountability for programs.

So I guess we’ll just both sit here thinking the other one is an idiot.
