The handful of people who control the Parties are no more competent than most people. Many of the Special Interests have very competent people, but they can be intimidated because normally it's just a job, or some weak-knee who was picked on in school and now champions a cause. I have a proposed formula for changing the status quo:
1) Find really competent people willing to run
2) Take over the local Parties through parliamentary maneuvers. (My local Republican Party was taken over by Libertarians in this way.)
3) (This is the controversial one) Use intimidation to personally discourage the Special Interests: picket their houses, harass them on the streets, buy media outlets and libel their companies or causes. (Fox News already does this.)
4) Appeal to the viscous hidden nature of most people who aren't voting now, but sure as hell will if it looks like they'll be puttin' it to The Man.
