Maybe this is 3. but, the industry has a destructive influence on the individual and society, though for rights or pragmatic reasons people should have access to it.

An example many might agree on: The government takes over the distribution of heroin. No dealers, cartels or gangs. But also no corporations trying to get as many people as possible on heroin. Show up to a boring DMV like facility and get your boring fix. Anytime you want help stopping, it's here.

A more debatable one. The government runs, or greatly restricts and smothers casinos. OK, you can gamble if you want to. But we're not going to have millions of dollars spent marketing, facilitating and promoting gambling*.

*Yes, the state does market and promote the lotto. But the lotto is like a cup of coffee compared to meth.

You should really see how they roll out here in the Midwest, though... People have (literally) taken out equity loans, to purchase rolls of scratch-offs.

MA just recently hopped on the $30 ticket train.

I don't think pissing money away on the lotto is just a Midwestern thing.

Nashville sports radio regularly runs ads during a single break from both the Ad Council against the state lottery and ads from the Tennessee Lottery promoting the lottery.
