Psychological Evolution

If the tenets of evolution apply equally to psychiatric functions of the brain then it is probable that these base instinctual traits are the result of natural selection. It is easy to postulate that people who did not exhibit the traits of envy, jealousy, and resentment, resulting in sociopathic acts of spite, vindictiveness and perversity towards their fellow homo sapiens, then those that did would eventually eliminate those who did not, especially if the non-trait exhibiting members of the species were unaware of the passive-aggressive assaults to their persons.

These base emotions are instinctual – both humans and animals experience them. The major difference between humans and animals is that we endeavor to overcome our basic instincts, while animals revel in them. Animals simply do not have the intellectual aptitude to recognize the advantages garnered from being civil.
