Publically-Funded Sports Stadiums

Using public money to build private sports stadiums is a well-understood phenomenon: many voters are sports fans, and they think everyone is a sports fan, and since most people vote in their own selfish interest, no politician can walk away without cover. There needs to be public anti-public-funded-stadium campaign, but where will that come from? Who would put up that money, and most news outlets won't run the ads since they are often co-opted too. This is a very difficult problem to prevent.
