Are There Liberal Republicans?

Post by Martin Hash » Wed Apr 30, 2014 2:33 pm

I'm a Liberal. Period. I'm not a Progressive or a Socialist & I'm anti-Marxist. However, the question is looming large on whether I'm a Democrat? Liberals are, by definition, purveyors of "new ideas," but most of the ideas I have might be better accepted by Republicans than Democrats: limited liability, privatizing government services, no business taxes, conservation, and a Balanced Budget amendment. Though many Conservatives have these same goals, my reasons are from a Liberal's perspective. (I explain them in the essay links below.) I once suggested that a Liberal could run as a Republican if he simply abstained from voting on issues in the Republican platform that he did not agree with. I actually read through a Republican platform a few years ago and there were only a few things I couldn't agree with. Interestingly, it was about the same number of issues that I don't agree with in the Democrat platform! (Different issues, of course.) At the very least, I'd be willing to explain my ideas at Republican functions?
