Psychopath vs. Sociopath vs. Machiavellian

Post by Martin Hash » Wed Feb 15, 2023 9:15 am

Once again I heard someone confusing psychopathy with sociopathy on YouTube so I thought I'd ask ChatGPT. Unsurprising, I was correct about psychopathy being people who do "bad" things because the dopamine reward system in their brain is wired backwards, and there's no cure, but I was wrong about sociopathy. Sociopaths act on impulse without regards to other people. It's a mental illness and also can't be cured. What I (and medical school) called sociopathy is really Machiavellianism: doing whatever the rules allow without moral compunction. I'm going to have to change what I say to, "All good CEOs are Machiavellian."
