Authoritarian

Post by Martin Hash » Wed May 26, 2021 6:58 am

There are really only 2 states of society: liberty or authoritarian. Liberty is a relatively new concept in history; it’s personal autonomy: people making decisions for themselves and reaping the rewards or suffering the consequences of their actions. Authoritarianism has existed since the beginning of life: he with the biggest rock wins. Because of that, subservience to authorities is probably encoded in our DNA, so many, probably most, people would rather they be told what to do and think; that’s why liberty is such a novel and delicate thing.

Authoritarianism comes down to those that are told and those that do the telling. In a Capitalist democracy, this eventually obviously ends up with those who have the most money are the biggest authorities; not in an intellectual or competence sense, but in the practical fact that they can buy the people who are: media, education, politics, entertainment, Tech; and actually censor any other voices that might disagree. Even with all that influence & power, the authoritarians would be ineffectual if people valued their liberty over their comfort but they don’t: almost everyone lives to be happy, and comfort equals happiness; authoritarians can deliver comfort as long as they get to define what “comfort” is.

COVID revealed how easily humans will gladly accept Authoritarian government, and how readily they will join in when given free license to do so by the higher authority. Masks are the obvious. Common citizens so quickly began informing on their fellow citizen. They trusted distant, unknown bureaucrats over family, friends and neighbors.

That still hasn't sunk in with our society, and has been ignored. It's sad.

I think informers are just an extension of the loser demographic. Remember, Bio-Leninism requires the government to promise winner status to the losers in return for the losers cooperation (and votes).
Informing on others is just one more way the dregs of society can pay their debt to government for elevating them to a level far beyond anywhere they could naturally achieve by their own merits.
